Explore one of the most discreet and scenic trek destinations in Central Nepal on the Panch Pokhari Trek. Thus, the pristine Langtang National Park to reach the five holy lakes situated in the Himalayas.
The Panch Pokhari Trek is an amalgamation of both adventure and spiritual journey. Acclaimed as the 9th highest altitude wetland in the world, the lakes are mostly visited by the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims during Janai Purnima in August.
The 15-day Panch Pokhari Trek commences upon your arrival in Kathmandu. The trip first takes you on a sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu valley where you can explore some of UNESCO World Heritage Sites namely Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Afterward, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Chautara village. You’ll gradually trek along with the ethnically rich Sherpa and Tamang villages en route to Panch Pokhari. The first stop you make is in Sano Okhareni and then cross Kami Kharka, Pauwa Bas, Hile Bhanjyang, and Nosyampati to trek through the steep uphill trail to Panch Pokhari.
You’ll also encounter many gorges, waterfalls, and rivers en route and walk through the mountainous terrain of Langtang National Park. Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Phurbe Chyakhu (6637m), Rolwaling, and Langtang Himal ranges will also be visible during the trek. From the viewpoint around Panch Pokhari, along with the amazing views of the lakes, you also see Dorje Lakpa, Jugal, Rolwaling, and Langtang mountains.
A small Panch Pokhari Temple accompanies the large 5 bodies of water which are frequently visited by the pilgrims. After exploring around the lakes and visiting the temple, you make your back to Melamchi through Tupi Danda and Dhap. Trekking downhill through steep terrain to Melamchi and drive back to Kathmandu. This marks the end of your adventurous journey.

Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation
Today, you’ll embark on a sightseeing tour of the historical Kathmandu Valley. Meanwhile, we will get any permits you need for the trek. You’ll visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites specifically Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. These heritages are some of the most important and revered monuments in the city. You can also prepare for the journey and buy equipment on the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Drive from Kathmandu to Chautara |1450m|5 Hrs
From Kathmandu, you will officially begin your journey towards Panch Pokhari by driving towards the Chautara. The drive will go along the Araniko Highway through hills along one of the major rivers of Nepal, Sun Koshi River. Once in Chautara, you can explore around the town. Chautara is the district headquarters of Sindhupalchowk District and is a bustling town. Overnight in Chautara.
Trek from Chautara to Sano Okhareni |1965m|5-6 Hrs
Leaving Chautara, the trek begins with a steady walk along the ethnic valley and mixed settlements. You will find people from various cultural backgrounds living in harmony. An easy ascent will take you across small streams and terraced farmlands. A few hours of uphill trekking will take you to the campsite at Sano Okhareni near the pine forest. Overnight in Sano Okhareni.
Trek from Sano Okhareni to Kami Kharka |2810m|5-6 Hrs
Leaving Sano Okhareni, you’ll continue uphill for four hours. The trail gets steeper as you approach the dense forests of rhododendron and pine trees. If you’re lucky, you can spot some of the most exotic birds and animals of Central Nepal including Lophophorus (Danphe), the national bird of Nepal. A gentle walk along the pasture land will take you directly to Kami Kharka. Overnight in Kami Kharka.
Trek from Kami Kharka to Pauwa Bas |3000m |4-5 Hrs
You’ll continue along the flat land and make your way into the quaint and tranquil forested region. You’ll encounter numerous rhododendron bushes en route. Some of the common vegetation in the area includes juniper, oak, and pine. A little higher from here, you’ll encounter nomadic settlements of Tamang and Sherpa tribe at Pauwa Bas. You’ll spend the night here.
Trek from Pauwa Bas to Hile Bhanjyang |3400m|5-6 Hrs
Leaving Pauwa Bas, you’ll climb along the steep uphill route for 3 hours to arrive on top of a hill. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy the majestic sight of some of the highest peaks in the central and eastern regions of Nepal. You’ll trek downhill for about an hour or two to reach the scenic site of Hile Bhanjyang from where you can see in the distant waterfall, river basins, and villages. The route to Hile is filled with bamboo, pine, rhododendron, and other alpine vegetation. Overnight in Hile Bhanjyang.
Trek from Hile Bhanjyang to Nosyampati|3700m|5-6 Hrs
You’ll encounter a pleasant walk today as you leave Hile Bhanjyang and make way towards Nosyampati. You can enjoy the beautiful sights of the beautiful surrounding while going up the steep hill for an hour. From here, you’ll descend along the rhododendron trail to reach the scenic destination of Nosyampati. Nosyampati consists of a Pati (Holy-inn) built for the visiting pilgrims. Trek from Nosyampati to Panch Pokhari|4100m|5-6 Hrs
On this day, you head towards the main highlight of the trek. The trek to Panch Pokhari is an uphill trek through a well-developed trail. but the trail towards the ridge might be difficult because of snow. Hundreds of pilgrims visit Panch Pokhari every year during August as there is a small temple accompanying the lake is dedicated to Lord Shiva. As the name suggested, there are five lakes here and the surrounding vantage points offer surreal views of the entire lake system beneath the Langtang Himalayas. Overnight at camp in Panch Pokhari.
Trek from Panch Pokhari to Tupi Danda|2320m|6-7 Hrs via Panch Pokhari Top
Leaving Panch Pokhari, you’ll make your way down going through the top of Panch Pokhari. Enjoying the panoramic view of the DorjeLakpa, Jugal Himal, Rolwaling, and Langtang Himalayan ranges, you cross numerous river tributaries on the way to Tupi Danda. You’ll descend through a steep trail through the lushly decorated Rhododendron forest to Tupi Danda. Overnight in Tupi Danda.
Trek from Tupi Danda to Dhap |1200m| 4-5 Hrs
The trek goes downhill through the easy trail to Dhap. Initially, the trail is quite steep. You’ll cross the beautiful terraced hillside and gorges to reach the tiny ethnic settlement of Tamang people in Dhap. You can observe the lifestyle, culture, and tradition of these Tamang inhabitants in Dhap. Overnight in Dhap.
You’ll spend the day exploring the beautiful Dhap and the surrounding villages today. The viewpoints excellently display the mountains in the backdrop of the towering hills. This day will also be a great chance to observe and communicate with the villagers. The Tamang traditional norms and rituals are unique and offer unique insight into their lifestyle. Overnight in Dhap.
Trek from Dhap to Melamchi|800m|5-6 Hrs
Leaving Dhap, you’ll retrace your path through terraced fields and green vegetation, and trek down to Melamchi via Indrawati River. You can also explore the hydroelectric project at Melamchi before heading down to Melamchi Pul Bazaar. The Bazaar is a busy town and you will find yourself among the hustle and bustle of a town. Overnight in Melamchi.
Drive from Melamchi to Kathmandu|5-6 Hrs| Farewell Dinner
After breakfast, you’ll catch your ride and head back to Kathmandu. You’ll drive along the Araniko Highway witnessing the colorful villages and town en route to Kathmandu. The ride may last the whole day. Once at Kathmandu, you’ll be escorted back to your hotel. In the evening, you will attend a farewell organized by the company. Overnight in Kathmandu.
