    All about the Mount Thorong Peak Climbing.

    Thorung Peak Climbing is a unique and technically less difficult peak climbing to the northwest of the Annapurna range. The journey circuits the Annapurna range and crosses one of the biggest passes in the world at Thorung La Pass (5416m).

    Furthermore, you get spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Tilicho, and many other mountains. In addition, the journey goes through beautiful Tibetan villages and barren land of Manang.

    Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) serve as the best seasons to do the Thorung Peak Climbing. The Himalayas and the weather both are pleasant during these months so, a physically fit person can easily complete the journey.

    1. Day 01 Arrival at Kathmandu 1,300m

      Arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport and meet our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. You have the option of visiting the sites like Pashupatinath and Boudhanath if you have enough time. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    2. Day 2 Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley

      The tour for the day involves visiting the major UNESCO world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley which includes Swayambhunath Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. These sites are of great religious and cultural importance. After lunch, we can head to Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square for a quick visit. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    3. Day 3 Drive to Syange 180 km (1,100m) 6/7 hours

      Our journey takes us to Syange today. The road leads us along the edge of Trishuli River on the Prithvi Highway. As we drive further west, we drive to Dumre. As we head further, we follow the Marsayangdi River and continue the drive until we reach Besisahar. Syange is a small resting and a starting point for those on the Thorang Peak climbing trip. Overnight in Syange.

    4. Day 4 Trek to Tal (1,700m) 5/6 hours

      We navigate through Chame and marvel at the gorgeous Ghermu and Chame waterfalls. Passing Jagat on the way, the trail takes us to Chamje and ascends to Gherang. We need to cross some suspension bridges before finally arriving at Tal. The residents in this village are mostly Gurung with some of them being Tibetan as well. Overnight in Tal.

    5. Day 5 Trek to Danakyu (2,300m) 6/7 hours

      The road for the day goes along the banks of the Marsayangdi River. The road is amazing with surreal views of the Marsayangdi valley slopes and the huge rocks and pastures greet us too. We continue the trek until we arrive at Danakyu. It is a Gurung settlement and comprises mostly of teahouses. Overnight in Danakyu.

    6. Day 6 Trek to Chame (2,670m) 4/5 hours

      We will head to the headquarters of Manang district for today which is Chame. From Chame, we can see views of Annapurna, Himlung, and Lamjung Himal ranges. Throughout the trek, we are accompanied by Marsayangdi River as we pass Karte and Odar. At Chame, we can observe Tibetan households. Overnight in Chame.

    7. Day 7 Trek to Pisang (3,200m) 5/6 hours

      As we walk on the steep path across pine forests and apple orchards, we reach Bhratang village. The trail goes through forests until we reach the picnic spot at Dhikur Pokhari. We shall have our lunch here and observe the Pisang Peak (6091m) and other mountains from here. After walking for a while, we can see the Pisang village. Overnight in Pisang.

    8. Day 8 Trek to Manang (3,540m) 5 hours

      We shall venture into the upper portion of the Manang district. The people residing in these parts raise yaks and cattle. The trail heads north from the Marsayangdi River and meets at Munchi. If you take the route at Ghyaru, there is relatively less climbing. After taking the easiest trail, we go through the Braga village where we can also visit the Braga Gompa. Manang is located a short distance away from Braga. Overnight in Manang.

    9. Day 9 Rest day for Acclimatization at Manang

      Today, we shall explore the major Landmarks of Manang. We shall explore the Boozo Gompa and visit the Gangapurna Lake as well. If you have enough time, then you can visit the Himalayan rescue association. Alternatively, there are a number of hiking destinations around Manang as well. You can take this opportunity to interact with the locals here. Overnight in Manang.

    10. Day 10 Trek to Yak Kharka (4,020m) 5 hours

      The road to Yak Kharka slowly goes across delightful lands. This region is known throughout the Annapurna region for very beautiful. The trail goes across Ghunsang and later joins the Jarsang River. As we move past pastures, we reach Yak Kharka. It is grazing land with yaks and sheep. Overnight in Yak Kharka.

    11. Day 11 Trek to Thorung High Camp (4,800m) 5 hours

      The road from Yak Kharka initially leads to the Thorung La Phedi. The Thorung La Phedi sits at the base of Thorung La Pass and you can find some decent teahouses. The road goes along the Kone River and continues all the way to Thorung Phedi. From the Thorung Phedi, you will ascend to the high camp. Overnight in Thorung La High camp.

    12. Day 12 Trek to Thorung Peak Base Camp (5,416m) 4/5 hours

      From the Thorung High Camp, we shall make our way to the Thorung Peak Base Camp. The climb is pretty steep and snowy so be sure to tread carefully. Once at the base camp, we can set our camps and rest. You can also use the time to prepare yourself for the climb. Overnight in Thorung Peak Base Camp.

    13. Day 13 Rest for Preparation Climbing (5,416m)

      Today, we won’t be doing any sort of climbing but rather we shall learn the proper usage of climbing equipment. Take care of your health and be sure to rest properly. We shall acclimatize better in the Himalayan atmosphere and also take a few climbing sessions. You can query the trip leader and guides for any information regarding the climb. Overnight in Thorung Peak Base Camp.

    14. Day 14 Climb to Thorung Peak summit (6,144m) then Down to Muktinath (3,760m) 8/9 hrs.

      We shall head to the Thorung Peak today. We begin the journey by crossing the Thorung La Pass and, from the pass, we can observe the amazing view of Kali Gandaki valley. We climb the summit and from there we can admire the beauty of the Annapurna ranges. The summit of the Thorung Peak (6144m) even offers mesmerizing views of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri ranges. From the peak, we descend towards the holy Muktinath. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Overnight in Muktinath.

    15. Day 15 Trek to Jomsom (2,720m) 5/6 hours

      Start your day by visiting the holy Muktinath temple and then begin the journey back to Jomsom via Kagbeni. The trail is barren and requires a lot of descending. We need to walk on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River and after a few hours, we reach Kagbeni. We shall have our lunch there and head to Jomsom. This was once an ancient trading route between Nepal and Tibet. Upon arrival in Jomsom, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Jomsom.

    16. Day 16 Early morning we take flight from Jomsom to Pokhara 25 minutes

      Our journey begins with a quick and picturesque flight that takes us to Pokhara from Jomsom. As we fly, we can observe the gorgeous landscape of the Annapurna Mountains and the Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m). At Pokhara, we can explore the Lakeside area and visit the World Peace Pagoda. If you have time, then do some boating on the Phewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.

    17. Day 17 Drive or fly back to Kathmandu |Farewell Dinner

      From Pokhara, the journey takes you along the Prithvi Highway and into Kathmandu. You have the option of either going by bus or by plane. Regardless of your choice, the journey provides amazing scenery of the green hills and snowy mountains. Once in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel and go souvenir shopping in Thamel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    18. Day 18 Departure from Kathmandu

      Today, we bid each other farewell with best wishes. A company representative will pick you up and drop you off at the airport in time for your trip. Your trip is over today and we hope to travel with you again.

    Highlights of the Trip

    Thorung Peak Climbing is a great opportunity to conquer a mountain above 6000 m. The trails on the journey pass through the Annapurna Conservation Area. Thus, there are plenty of moments where you can enjoy the natural wealth of the area. The journey passes many culturally rich sites on the way. Finally, the trip heads to the Muktinath Temple and settles at the barren lands of Jomsom.

     

    Thorung Peak Climbing at a glance

    To start your journey, you’ll drive to Syange, west of Kathmandu. Next, you head to Tal crossing the suspension bridge over Marshyangdi River. The river gives you company along the trail as you trek towards Danakyu. Following a gentle trail, you’ll head to Chame with magnificent views of Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. Passing Pisang, you reach Manang village where you spend a day to rest. Further, you head to Yak Kharka and trek to High Camp the other day. From High Camp, you climb to the top of the Thorung Peak (6144m) and head down to Muktinath. After exploring Muktinath temple, you trek down to Jomsom and take a flight to Pokhara. Finally, a scenic flight over enchanting Nepali geography brings you back to Kathmandu.
